To be honest, I wasn't involved in this movement because I was younger back then.

This might actually work because YouTube has a terrible spam problem right now.

Yeah, I can see Bob's Army coming back after nearly 12 years.
Although, I feel sorry for those living in the United States.

Death to the Corporatocracy!!! Death to the Monopolies!!! Long live the People!!! Long live the Revolution!!!

I cannot unhear a Communist saying this.

Nostalgia hits hard seeing this gem *_*

I never got to spam comments, but I've changed my pfp to Bob instead of Clippy to scare Google.

How many youtube executives do you think actually read through youtube comments? I doubt they'll notice.

Google+ failed the first time because it was a terrible platform, no one wanted it.

Yeah, I get your point about how it would be very difficult to re-popularise Bob after nearly 12 years.
(even though, the barrier between YouTube and Google doesn't exist anymore.)

@TheAnythingGuy
My point was more that Bob didn't actually do anything back then, it's just a form of slacktivism. Google+ didn't fail because of Bob, it failed because Google+ was genuinely terrible.

Oh, what a shame as I didn't mind using it when I was younger, but I have one question...
Does that mean that the Clippy pfp movement is also a form of slacktivism?

@TheAnythingGuy
Pretty much. I mean, Google, Microsoft, Apple, whoever - have been criticized for years for their crappy decision making and they haven't listened, what good is changing your profile pic going to do?

At best you'll raise awareness from other users, but I strongly doubt the actual companies will care.

@DeaghlanNG Yeah sorry but i call bullshit. Just because it's Slacktivism, doesn't mean it produce nothing or have any lesser impact. Take BlackLivesMatter for example, it's literally a slacktivism that bring awarness to discrimination and systematic racism against African-Americans in the United States, and now it became full fledge protest in the cities that demanding justice and bring alot good changes for the American people, especially after the murder of George Floyd in 2020. The truth is, yesterday Slacktvism will become tommorow Armed Revolution, it may never bring any social changes by just changing pfp and saying random comments, but it certainly helps accelerate the awarness that full on protest and revolution is the only solution.

@Shyang-emon
That's fine.

I already said at best it could raise awareness. But that's it really. The companies are never going to care, as long as people continue to use their services.

Bear in mind, BLM didn't just do good for America. The riots often targeted people who were in no way responsible for what happened with Floyd (small business owners for example). Frankly I think that probably scared more people away than it attracted to the cause, which is the opposite of the intention.

@TheAnythingGuy Atleast Communist support online privacy.

I don't know, because communist states can be censorous.

@Shyang-emon
Now that, my friend, is bullshit.

Have a look at China to see how much online privacy they have. Communists will 'support' anything to get themselves into power.
